Barbara Boxer was elected to the United States House of Representatives in 1982. In 1992 she was elected to the US Senate. Boxer is a Democrat and an advocate for environmental issues and women's rights. Her political career began as an elected member of the Marin County Board of Supervisors. Boxer has recently been favored by liberals as a possible 2008 candidate for president.
